MEN'S PRO LEAGUE RECAP - SEMIFINALS
We had some unfortunate circumstances in our first semi-final as the Bro Kings had to forfeit their game against Da Sqaud. Jamar Howard has an eye infection, Steven Vinson is out of town, and their leader Corey Schulte is suffering from the flu. Great season Bro Kings we hope to see you in the next league.
Our 2nd matchup produced a surprising beat down as the Gym Rats continued their run to 5 straight wins with a 76-46 win over Team Jay. Chad Fleming was a man on a mission from the start of the game. He abused smaller defenders down low and shot over larger ones from the outside scoring 21 points in the first half and finishing with 34 for the game. Aaron Bond and Hunter Henry did the little things all night dropping a jumper here and grabbing a big rebound there. Team Jay was plagued by poor shooting throughout as they only hit 2 threes the entire game, WOW. They have the top 2 scorers in the league and could only manage to score 46 points. You have to give props to Burgette and Hawkins for having 50 point games this season but it goes to show that scoring isn’t everything. On the other side of things, I have never seen a team move the ball like the Gym Rats. Their big men pass like guards and they can come out and shoot the three. I know I’ve said it before, but the Princeton style offense they run with backdoor cuts is almost impossible to stop.
Championship Preview: Wednesday 8:00pm (Be here at 7:30)
#4 Seed Da Squad vs. #3 Seed Gym Rats In the regular season the Gym Rats controlled every phase of the game against Da Squad on the way to a 25 point win. Da Squad abandoned their low post play for desperate jump shots the whole night and the bricks kept piling up. The word on the street is Jeff Graves has strep throat and is out for the game, which is a huge loss for Da Squad. Stephen Green will have to step up if Da Squad wants to win their 2nd Pro League championship. The rats will have to double green and then the pressure will shift to Da Squad’s outside shooters who will need to knock down open looks. I don’t want to jinx anyone, but the way the Rats are playing they have to be the favorite on Wednesday. They have demolished their opponents the last 5 games canning threes, pushing people around in the post, getting offensive rebounds, and dropping ridiculous dimes. Da Squad has their work cut out for them, but anything can happen. They have a former MVP in Vince Smith and a great slasher in Jonathan Bruce. Turnovers might be the difference in this one, I can’t wait to see what happens.
Leading Scorer/MVP update Barring a lights out performance from a player in our championship game, Brandon Burgette has secured the scoring title with 172 total points. If you’re wondering about the MVP, it is decided by your consistency throughout the regular season, your ability to play offense and defense, and your performance in the playoffs. There are three or four candidates I can think of that are deserving of this honor so stick around after the game and we will announce the winner.
Will Da Squad win another championship or will the Gym Rats break through for their first? Everyone should come down and see the game.
