2014 CBE Hall of Fame Classic Teams Announced
Iowa State Headlines the Field For the 2014 CBE Hall of Fame Classic
Cyclones to be joined by Alabama, Arizona State and Maryland For the Championship Rounds November 24 and 25
KANSAS CITY, MO (March 10, 2014)– Nationally ranked Iowa State will join Alabama, Arizona State and Maryland for the championship rounds of the 2014 CBE Hall of Fame Classic November 24 and 25 at Sprint Center. The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the field today.
The semifinal rounds will be held on Monday, November 24. The finals will take place the following day, Tuesday, November 25, beginning with the consolation game, followed by the championship game. All four games will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.

ALABAMA - Experiencing a difficult 2013-14 season with an overall record of 12-18, including a 6-11 mark in the SEC. Led by senior guard Trevor Releford and sophomore guard Retin Obasohan.
Anthony Grant, Head Coach of the Crimson Tide, stated: “We are excited to be a part of the 2014 CBE Hall of Fame Classic. It is one of the premier events in college basketball and with the teams in next year’s field, I expect it to be one of the most exciting and competitive to date.”
ARIZONA STATE - Enjoying its best season since 2008-09 with an overall record of 21-9. Currently tied for third place in the PAC-12 with a record of 10-7.Looking to make the NCAA Tournament field for the third time since the 2002-03 season. Led by sophomore guard Jahii Carson and senior guard Jermaine Marshall.
Sun Devils Head Coach Herb Sendek, in his 8th season in Tempe, had this to say about playing in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic: “We look forward to being part of such a great event that honors tradition in one of the great basketball cities and states in America. The Kansas City area loves basketball as much as any and we look forward to hosting a pair of games and beginning our season in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic next season."
IOWA STATE - Ranked in the top 20 with an overall record of 22-7. Currently tied for fourth place in the Big 12 with a record of 10-7. Led by senior forward Melvin Ejim, senior guard Deandre Kane and sophomore forward Georges Niang.
Fred Hoiberg, who has a career record of 84-45 as Head Coach of the Cyclones, said: “We are excited to be part of the great field at the CBE Hall of Fame Classic. Every season this is one of the nation’s top tournaments and next year’s field will continue that tradition. The proximity of Kansas City will allow a lot of Cyclone fans to attend and I know they are looking forward to this event.”
MARYLAND - Finishing up their final season in the ACC before moving to the Big Ten next season, the Terps currently sport a 16-14 record and are 8-9 in ACC play. Led by junior guard Dez Wells and sophomore guard Seth Allen.
Coach Mark Turgeon, in his 3rd year at the helm at Maryland, had this to say about participating in the 2014 CBE Hall of Fame Classic: “We’re very excited to be a part of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic, which features a number of top teams from across the nation. As a native of Kansas, I understand the region’s passion and tradition for college basketball. Our team is looking forward to this outstanding experience.”

The event is named after the College Basketball Experience, the award-winning and highly interactive college basketball fan facility adjacent to Sprint Center, which also features the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. Opened in October 2007, the College Basketball Experience is the nation's only facility that celebrates, in its entirety, the sport of men's collegiate basketball. The tournament, in partnership with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), was initially established in 2001 as the Guardians Classic.
