Biography

Arthur "Dutch" Lonborg played guard, and learned the game, from the legendary Phog Allen at Kansas University. He led Washburn University to the national AAU title in 1925. In 23 years as coach of Northwestern, Lonborg turned the Wildcats into a Midwest power, winning the Big Ten championship in 1931. After coaching, Lonborg became athletics director at Kansas for fourteen years and went on to be active in all facets of basketball administration. As chairman of the NCAA Tournament Committee, the tournament grew from an eight-team to a 25-team event. He served as President of the NABC in 1935 and Manager of the US Olympic Team in 1960.
