Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee 1970
New Jersey native Carnevale began his coaching career at the University of North Carolina, bringing the Tar Heels to the NCAA Finals in 1946. He moved on to coach at the Naval Academy where he stayed for 20 seasons. The Navy's height restrictions never appeared to be an obstacle for Carnevale's teams, despite opponents' intimidating stature. He led the Navy to five NCAA and two NIT tournament appearances. In 1947 he was named College Coach of the Year.
