Charles "Stretch" Murphy was an All-American at Purdue University and one of the greatest big men of his era. He was an aggressive rebounder whose quick and accurate outlet passes allowed fellow All-American teammate John Wooden to key Hall of Fame coach Ward "Piggy" Lambert's go-go offense. In 1929, Stretch led the Big Ten Conference in scoring. In 1930, he led the Boilermakers to the Big Ten Championship and a 13-2 overall record.
