A native son of Louisville, Griffith was known for his acrobatics above the rim, which earned him the nickname "Dr. Dunkenstein." Beyond the thunderous dunks, he showed a complete skill set that led Louisville to the 1980 NCAA Championship. Griffith scored 23 points to beat UCLA and give the Cardinals their first national title. He earned the Most Outstanding Player Award for the tournament and the Wooden Award as college basketball's best player in 1980.
