Known as "The Big Cat", Earl Lloyd played tenacious defense for West Virginia State in the late 40?s. He led the 1947 Yellow Jackets to an undefeated season; a feat no other team could match that year. With Lloyd dominating on both sides of the ball, his teams won two Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular season and tournament championships. He is known for being the first African-American to play in the NBA when he stepped on the court for the Washington Capitals in 1950.
