Howard Hobson was captain of the baseball and basketball teams at the University of Oregon from 1924-1926. He coached high school ball in Oregon and Washington before becoming head coach at Southern Oregon in 1928. Hobson lead SO to three league championships (1933-1935). He returned to his alma mater in 1935 and coached the Ducks to a National Championship in the 1939 inaugural NCAA Tournament. The Ducks claimed three straight Pacific Coast Championships from 1937 to 1939. In 1948 Hobson became head coach at Yale and led the team to five Big Three titles. Hobson was an early advocate of the 3-point shot. He was a distinguished clinician, author, teacher and coach of basketball and a member of the US Olympic Basketball Committee.
