Biography

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee 1968

As a player, Cann won the AAU National Championship with New York University and was named Helms Athletic Foundation Player of the Year in 1920. He returned to the school as coach for the 1923-24 season and continued coaching there for the next 35 years. His 1943-35 team lost only one of twenty games and outscored its opposition 740 to 489. He took his 1945 NYU team to the NCAA final. Cann was named Coach of the Year in 1947 and his team took the NIT Championship in 1948. He retired after finishing the 1957-58 season with a record of 409 wins and 232 losses.
