Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee 1995
For three years, UCLA's Lew Alcindor was the most dominant force in college basketball. His shot blocking and rebounding skills, along with a devastating "skyhook", helped Coach John Wooden's Bruins win three National Championships. During that run, Alcindor became the only man to be selected as a three-time NCAA Tournament "Most Outstanding Player". In 1971, he converted to Islam, taking the name Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (meaning "noble, powerful servant"). In 1996, he was named to the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team.
