Vandivier captained the famous "Franklin Wonder Five," who captured three straight Indiana State High School championships from 1920 to 1922. Staying close to home, Vandivier went on to play at Franklin College. Named All-State each season on the team, his senior year he became an All-Midwest College All Star. A severe back injury that year cut his career short. After graduating, Vandivier went on to coach his former team at Franklin High School.
