Tom "Mr. All-Around" Gola is a Philly folk hero. A tremendous scorer and rebounder, Gola led the LaSalle University Explorers to an NIT Championship in his freshman year of 1952, then to the NCAA National Championship in 1954, the same year he was named Collegiate Player of the Year. Gola scored a school record 2,461 points and hauled down an NCAA record 2,201 rebounds. The Philly native continued his career as a pro with the Warriors and helped to lead the team to the 1956 NBA crown. A 5-time NBA All-Star, Gola scored over 7,800 points and had over 5,600 rebounds in his pro career. He returned to his alma mater to coach LaSalle to a #2 national ranking in 1968-69 season.
